component and amp help

ok today i decided to hook up my amp to my components. when i got everything hooked up the only noise that came out of the components was a buzzing noise. im pretty sure everything is hooked up right but im gonna double check tommorrow. do any of you have any suggestions at what could be wrong. btw the amp is used and when igot it, it was suppose to be in working condition
