I took my truck to a garage the other day to see about getting a CV boot replaced. He told me it was about the same price as getting a new axle put in. I have one bad outer boot but they all probably neeeds replaceing. Is there an easy kit for these or is it better to replace both axles?

How many miles are on the vehicle?

I would recommend replacing the entire half-shaft on the side that has the torn boot. The reason being is that once the grease comes out of that joint, it wears out very fast. If the other axle looks to be in good shape, and the boot doesn't look like it's super brittle, I'd probably just do the one side... unless it's your dd and can't spare to have it down.

The axles are fairly simple to take out/put back in.

Just do the one side. You should be able to do it yourself in about 45 min or so.

I'd youtube it.. I may have pics somewhere; I'll check later. All you need is a breaker bar, small rachet, socket set, and maybe a hammer. The spindle nut is fairly large so you'll need a large socket for that.. I can't remember what size off the top of my head.
