FOR '99-'02 TRUCKS ONLY w/o AUTO CLIMATE CONTROLS

Basically you will need a pair of wire cutters and a 1.5K ohm 1/2 watt resistor that you can get at Radio Shack. Electrical tape and possibly some wire nuts will work to wire in the resistor. You can solder the wires if you wish.

You may want to remove the neg. battery cable to assure you don't do any unwanted damage to the electrical system. This is not necessary, but a good precaution to take.

First locate the Body Control Module (BCM) which is under the dash, below the steering column. Laying on the floor, this should be visible without removing any dash panels. You should find a purple connector (C3). Unplug it.

Locate the white and gray wires (A4 and A6). I don't remember if white is A4 and gray is A6 or vice versa. It doesn't matter anyway.

Clip these two wires that are coming off this plug (C3). Leave a few inches to work with. Tape up or place wire nuts over the other end of these wires that go up under the dash(they go to the light sensor). You have now removed the light sensor from the electrical system and is now just a dash ornament.

Connect the gray wire from the plug (C3) to one end of the resistor and the white wire to the other end. Make sure you tape up all wires to prevent a short. You should now have a gray wire coming from C3, going to one lead of the resistor and the white wire from C3 to the other resistor lead. Plug in C3 to the BCM and replace the neg. battery cable if you removed it. Start the truck and make sure the lights are off. Throw a dark towel or something over the light sensor on the dash and verify the lights stay off. Try your light switch that has probably never been used and that's it!

i didnt feel like readin this whole post... but if its about what i think.. then your tryin to make your headlights not come on automatically in the dark? if so then you could have just pushed the dome over ride button 4 times in a row and they wont come on anymore til you push it 4 times in a row again..

I have had this mod done for over a year and it has worked flawless since day one. I also added in a switch, so I can flip it and go back to autoheadlamps if I ever desire.

This is true, but the dome-override trick doesnt work on the '99s. Also if you use the resistor method, your DRL's still operate. So if you like the look of amber or hyperwight DRL's, they still shine.

The auto headlights have never really bothered me, funny... anyone know how the autdimming on the rearview is wired in? When I put a windowshade in my truck, it usually causes the rearview to dim.

Autolamps make me somewhat hostile. I don't see the need for those or DRLs. I've killed the DRLs on my Chev a while ago by removing those bulbs, and in my WRX by pulling a relay.

I also killed that door chime as soon as I got the Chev home, irritating as can be.

That dome override you have to do each time you hop in the truck, PITA.

I'll fix them here in a few days.

i don't mind the auto headlight untill i end up stopping and parking somewhere and don't want to turn off the truck. since i have a 99, i have to turn off the truck, push in the emergency brake a lil bit, then start the truck again. it gets annoying. don't the new trucks have a setting on the headlight switch that turns the auto setting off???

In the newer trucks (03+) there is an off setting, but it is on a type of swing switch (think of it as, it won't stay there). That disables the DRLs and auto lighting, but it also resets itself everytime the key is turned off.

I saw a tech on FSC a while ago, that wired the fog lights to come with the park lights. That is the mod I'd most be interested in, seeing how I always turn them on when I turn the headlights on. Plus, they would come on with the auto headlamps too. Unfortunately, they couldn't confirm it would work on a 03+. Damn GM for changing shit up...

thats what i hated about them too.

a guy on cadillacforums.com figured out how to kill the auto headlights and DRL's on the OBS lades. all i had to do was disconnect a wire running to the light sensor in the rearview mirror and take out a small resistor thing underneath the dash. now all my lights are directly controlled be me through the headlight switch. :D
