OK, I'm doing some audio upgrades to my truck... http://www.gmfullsize.com/forum/showthread.php?t=225958.
I'm on the fence about the actual need for the Onstar interface to retain door chime and turn signal sound.

Bottom line, what will I hurt if I do not buy the $100-150 harness to hook up my Avic-F90BT? I've read as little as those sounds to as drastic as disrupting fuel system and frying the ECM in my truck. Is GM really that stupid to integrate so much through the factory head unit?

Get this kit, it retains all your functions, the steering wheel controls, bluetooth and RAP wire were all i wanted to retain but it does the onstar crap blinkers and door chimes..

The price is a total outrage!! Im still pissed I had to buy it but I'm glad everything still works now. I paid $130 bucks at a local 6Ave store.
If you're installing it yourself make sure the place you buy it from flashes the lastest firmware on it. I found that out the hard way because mine didn't work properly with my truck till i got it flashed.

Think about it like this, if your vehicle ever gets stolen, and the police need to use the onstar to track it (this works even when you dont have a subscription), will you regret not spending the $150(+/-)?

I forgot I had this post ... I ended up buying the metra. Axxess. Harness. For 100 and 40 for the steering wheel interface. Still haven't installed it all yet though.
