1. dont cut it out.
2. it only messes with the PCM intially to think its getting more air so more fuel is pumped into the motor, reulting in more performance, but it will eventually get used ot it, and lower the tables in the PCM, so you wont feel anything anymore.
3. if remember correctly, its there to smooth airflow and provide a more spread and equal reading for the MAF.

DONT DO IT! Youll lean it out man. Been there done that. I had to replace my MAF. Its really hard to tune with that screen out too. Onyx is right, that screen is there to smooth out the airflow across the filaments.

what about if i get the nelson tuning.
You could do that. But Id make a few logs with the screen gone and then let him see where your LTRMs are. He can tune it accordingly. Just tell him the screen is gone so he can tweak the MAF tables a tad.

BUT I would still leave the screen in there!!!!! Very minute gains if anything. Not worth it.

also if your ever leave a tool or something behind in the intake path while working under the hood, the screen will prevent it from getting sucked into ur engine

I had a Descreened MAF when I got my tune done. Allen wasnt able to make up for all the unmetered air that was entering the engine. If you want a Descreened MAF, get a ZO6 unit. They come stock with the screen out, and its already calibrated for it. This is just :imo
