How can you tell if its a LBZ, LLY, LMM and so on?

what does each mean? like what years have which diesels in them and which are better then others?

im trying to figure this whole thing out. I want to upgrade to a diesel soon cause i need it for work but i would like to make an educated decision. thanks guys

The biggest differnces I'm aware of are injectors got moved outside the valve covers after the 1 engine. The 2 engine also got rid of the ficm. Then they raised the fuel pressure which raised power and I'm pretty sure added egr on the d engine. The newest ones have a ton of emissions stuff on them.

lb7 is the only one with the injectors inside the valve covers

so the LBZ engine has less emissions equipment then the LMM engine? so the LBZ is basically easier to get away with more stuff then the LMM engine i take it cause of that correct?

all lly and lbzs have are egrs and cats
