Glad I ran across this thread. I’ve been detailing the engine bay on my Tahoe. I was about to power wash the engine.

I don't have an LS engine, but I've heard of the knock sensor and water problem. I've always wondered if removing the foam would be the answer. Sometimes when "seals" against water are used, it does more to trap the water that does get by, than to prevent water intrusion to begin with. So I'm thinking while removing the foam may allow water in, it may also allow it to dry quickly.

I’ve used Simple Green, and then rinsed it off after it sits a little while. I’ve been doing this for the last 18 years, and haven’t created any problems what so ever. I guess I’m just lucky.

Use a good degreaser and pressure washer over a garden hose. Just a quick blast to rinse the chemical is all you need.
