I have a 85 5.0 and as we all know this motor is not very powerfull it is a dog. My mom says I can do a engine swap and will have about 2000-2500 to get some power in my ride. What should I do with this kind of money to get as much power I can? But, that price has to include the transmission to.

Why do you have to replace the tranny too?

I'm guessing your budget includes labor, as well? If so, then you'd be better off saving up about double your current budget. With only 2500 to spend on a motor and tranny swap, you'll be getting a junkyard replacement.

Ok, with out the transmission. A bunch of my dad's friends will help me with all the labor and everything. So just the motor it self. What could I get that would be pretty reliable and has good power and is capable of more power down the road?

OrangeCrush said the same thing I was gonna say...save up a little more and get ya a LT1 350 from a Camaro/Trans Am/Vette...good, strong motors that can be built up for a good powerplant. You'll need to get a correct computer and wiring for it too which may run you some more. And I'm not 100% sure, but I believe you'll have to get a different Tranny because yours being an 85 won't have the same "bolt up" setup on the bellhousing. Plus, upgrading the tranny along with your newer, more powerful motor would be smart anyways.
If I were you, I would look into something more along the lines of this :head2:... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=7907408496&category=33615
With what money you've got, just be a little more patient and save up some more. You'll be alot happier with something like the LT1 or LS1 swap vs. building up your 305 in the long run...Hope everything works out for ya

Oh yeah, here's a couple LT1's I found that's for sale if you wanna take a look.
