Truck is a 2002 4x4 regular cab, 4.8 liter, 115,000 miles.

The last few days I have noticed a faint growling or roaring sound when truck is between 40 & 50 mph. It is most noticeable almost right at 45 mph.

Does this sound like my rear end or more like a hub? It is NOT more noticeable in a curve of either direction.

normally if it is a hub the noise will be more noticeable when you turn putting more pressure on that hub bearing. could be tires. are they cupped or worn from lack of infrequient rotating?

Tread is still good & tires are in good shape. I just went out & looked them over to be sure. They have been rotated about every 10000 miles & probably have a little over 40000 miles on them.

Finally got my truck in the air...drivers side front tire is kind of stiff to turn compared to the other side. When wobbling it top to bottom, it does have some play. Looks like I will be learning how to change a hub.

Anyone have a link to a good write up for changing it out on a 4 wheel drive?
