There is a thread on another forum that a guy is asking about taking all the coil spring front out of a two wheel drive 73-87 1/2 ton chevy, and changing it over to 4 wheel drive. He seems to think he can just unbolt the coil parts, control arms and all and bolt in the leaf parts. Arnt the frame fronts totaly different on the two trucks? Anyone got any pics of a 2wd and 4wd with the front clips off? Thanks for any answers.

Yes, the frames are different. I changed an early 80's Surburban over to 4wd once and I had to change out the frames because none of the stuff is there to mount the leaf springs.

The frame rails on the 73-87 pickups are exactly the same. In fact Blazers from the front cab support forward are also the same.

If you want to go from 4x2 to 4x4 though, you must remove EVERYTHING front the donor frame rail. PLUS the rear spring mounts are also no the same, so they need to be swapped.
If you have a 4x2 and want a 4x4 and you have a donor that is complete it is MUCH easier to just swap body parts over...
