First time on this forum, helping out a friend with her "runs good" truck.
She has a K3500 4x4 SRW flatbed with 454 engine. When the fuel tank gets below 1/4 full, the truck starts sputtering. Full tank, no issue until 1/4 full. She will replace the fuel filter first, and do a Dry Heat treatment. Wondering if it could be fuel pump. Why would the fuel level in tank would affect pump? Some kind of contamination in the tank?

No expert here man, but I've had some issues where it can be related to either the contamination (crap) at the bottom being sucked and pretty much clogging the fuel filter causing that sputtering. The other issue has been a faulty pump not sucking at low levels, and since the gas moves around, it would cause that sputtering when it would actually miss that suck. Lol
Best bet, start with that filter, it should give you that initial indication of how dirty that tank may be.
