I just purchased an 01' Chevy Z71. The guy I bought if from said that when the truck was purchased new it had different gearing than the standard. I am assuming he means it has 4:10 gearing. Does anyone know if there is a way to verify this? Would it be written or stamped somewhere?
Thanks.

In the Glovebox there is a sticker with a bunch of Codes on it.

GT5 is for 4:10
GT4 is for 3:73

If I remember correctly

the guy could of also replaced the gears with 4.56, but i bet you have the 4.10 gears, check for this in the middle lines of code in your glovebox GT5

Count how many times the drive shaft turnes to one rotation of the tire.
Block the front tires and jack up the rear, put into N and check it out. This will give you a closer guess. Example: 1 Tire to 3 almost 4 DS revolutions = 3.73 a little over 4 = 4.10 over 4 1/2 = 4.56

Good Luck!!
