To start things off - Yes, I have searched. I didn't find exactly what I was looking for.

I want to see how people are going about gutting cats on a stock NBS Y pipe. I dont want to cut, which would make things a lot easier, but I don't want to deal with welding them back up. I was thinking if I did cut em out, I could flange them for on/off removal (SMOG), but that's just another place for a leak and yet another attachment spot.

At the front of the Cat there's a nice bend there which goes to the headers. That proves to be somewhat difficult to get around. If I were to come from the rear, the passenger side would be the only feasible one.

Anyways, tips/tricks/ideas are appreciated. I don't need to hear the "dont do it" or "not worth it's" as that's not what I want to "know."

I cut mine out and welded in new pipe, but for gutting them...Probably your best bet for not doing any cutting or welding would be to drop down the whole Y pipe with both cats and use a bar to break up the guts in the cats.

The issue is getting a bar all the way into the cat with all the bends there. One of my main reasons for Not cutting, is that if there's going to be any welding, I already have a Pacesetter Y pipe but its meant for long tubes. It needs the bends that are after the cats to fit the stock size headers. If I was going to weld, I'd just do that but I don't want to spend the money right now making that shit work.

What about dropping the Y pipe with the cats, and torching a hole about the size of a quarter or less and break up the guts and then welding a plug back on the cat. Do it to the on the top side so it can't be seen from the bottom.

I'm not worried about the visual aspect at all. It is a good idea, but I want to stay away from welding. I don't have a welder which means I'd have to bring it to someone.

what about pouring gas in there to dissolve them, and tapping them on the outside w/ a rubber mallet?
Gas cost money. I don't want to deal with trying to capture as well to reuse it.

I like the sound

post a picture of the configuration i'll see if how i did it would work.
Tried to find some pics off of google...no luck. I'll have to take some pics tomorrow

gas is what 3 dollars a gallon.. pretty sure a gallon will work?
Then you come down to the mess factor of trying to keep it all together then disposal.

I'm not about to pour gas all over the street/driveway/backyard/where ever I decide to do it. Nor will I capture it all in a bucket and just let it sit to evaporate with a puppy running around the back yard.

I would think you'd be able to get a bar shoved down the Y pipe if you started at the top (If you pulled the Y pipe off). Once you start breaking up the guts on the inside, they fall apart pretty easy. Either a pry bar or get a steel rod you could bend to get inside to the cat.

Also...I had no idea straight gasoline would dissolve the guts in a cat. Interesting.

if you gut your cats, you need to weld straight pipe through them. if you don't, the pressure change of going from 2.75" pipe to a huge open box (the now gutted cat) back to 2.75" will fuck things up, so i've heard.

if you don't care about visual inspection or smog, then fuck it. get a cat-less y-pipe bent up.

and holy shit, yes you might have to spend some money here. gotta pay to play.

Why not just buy one of them Jegs ORYs, then swap in the stocker for smog time? :hmm:
