H.I.D. light blowing fuses

5686 Views 15 Replies 9 Participants Last post by  04SSHD
I have now had my HID's installed for a few weeks now with good results. Well after the other nite I noticed one of my lights had went out. So today I checked everything and found it had blew the 10 amp fuse so I put a 20 amp fuse in to see if it worked and it blew it up within a matter of a few seconds. This kit I have is just plug and play so no new wirrring or routing any what so ever. I am wondering why now it keeps blowing that fuse for just that light. Any help would be appreciated.

i threw a 25amp fuse in mine... they seem to come on quicker and etc..

What kinda kit did you get?
I got a kit made by wizz I believe. Yea did have the 10 amp in there so I threw a 20 amp in there and it blew in a matter of seconds. Dont know if I need a bigger than a 20 say like a 25 like you did or what. I might even have a bad ground for some reason.
HA... thats funny... I just got fed up and pulled out my HID's (literally just finished boxing them back up) I installed last week b/c of the same problem... blowing the same 10amp fuse over and over... the drivers side to be specific. Tried a 20amp and BAM... same thing... so I didn't even bother to go any bigger w/ the fuses.

I think its the same kit (Wizz) so it seems like its the kit and not the truck IMO.
damn, this may be my problem....my temporary fix is to just turn them on before i start the truck and they run fine there after

Mine would blow with or without the engine started... :pow:
DylanSS Yea just did the same thing boxed mine up too just a little bit ago. Now got try to contact the guy and see what he will do. Oh now after working with them putting bigger fuses in them I couldn't get any of them to turn on so go figure lol.

did you get those from 04SSHD?
Yes I did.
are you going off the stock wiring for power? or does that kit come with the relay and wiring to get power off the battery ? if that kit is trying to power up the ballast's through factory wiring... thats your problem. The ballast's need alot of power to create enough voltage for the hid's to work.

This kit was sold as a plug and play... I should've known better, but yeah... it uses all the factory wiring setups, no splices or running new wire. Just plug harness into ballast, plug ballast into HID bulb, put bulb in stock housing... good to go :pow:
Yea mine was plug and play. Seemed to work good for a while and them bam nothing at all. Talked to the guy he is going to send me a whole new kit to try and all I have to do is send the old one back. wonder with this kit you could do any kind of wirring to help with the power output then.
Get a kit from Josh at InMotion. Comes with a nice harness. Mines been in for 4 months and no problems as of yet.

yea, thats where i got mine, a litte more then ebay, but a nice complete kit.

the only problem i had at first was going over decent sized bumps the lights would cut out and come back on (lose connection) after checking my grounds and power wires twice found out it was the inline fuse the kit used. The inlinse fuse is basically to basic wire connectors with the fuse shoved in it. it works but the fuse blades are a little thin so they do not make a nice tight fit. quick trip to advanced auto for a new inline fuse holder and it was taken care of
i got mine from a guy on ebay and been running them for a month or two no problem, plugnplay, just put a 30amp fuse in... even says it in the instruction booklet in the package. try that out before you ditch em, cause i love mine!
This issues has been addressed with the manufacturer, and has been resolved. There was a bad batch of ballasts, if you are experiencing this problem with my kits please let me know and I will take care of it ASAP. New ballasts are in stock now to replace faulty one. I apologize for any inconvenience and I will personally resolve this issue if it arises in your kit.
