Hi all.

Donovan here just to give you all a brief intro of who I am. I am a 48 year old male of the Caucasian persuasion and I am straight (no offense meant and therefore no offense needs to be taken). I am based in Roodepoort on the West Rand of Johannesburg located in the Gauteng Province of Sunny South Africa. I am a Jack of all trades and a master of none. The reason I am in this forum is because my father just recently bought a 1987 Honda 250 ATC 3 Wheeler more commonly known as "BIG RED". Searching for advice on the "BIG RED" on the web brought me here and auto added me to this forum. No complaints as I believe the advice I need can either be found here or someone here can refer me to someone who can help. Being a 1987 model and having stood on a showroom floor for some time, made the "BIG RED" a little rusty. The carburetor on the "BIG RED" is currently a diaphragm type and I wanted to know about replacing the carb with a float level carb that is bolt on with little or no modifications needed. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Bare in mind being based in South Africa means that things work slightly different and certain carburetors might not be available here. Importing is Theref but a costly one. If a compatible 250cc Honda OEM carburetor is the way to go then so be it as Honda is available in South Africa but I am not certain if the float type carburetor model suggested by someone in this forum is available in South Africa being that the suggested carburetor is available in Canada or the US but not in South Africa. An inexperienced parts sales counter person at Honda in South Africa wouldn't have real experience with the "BIG RED" and it could be a wasted trip to our local Honda Motorcycle Parts dealership. That is why asking for advice in this forum would be a better decision and will increase the possibility of getting the advice needed, in my opinion.

Thanks for your time and advice and I look forward to hearing back from someone soon.

Why would you sign up to a truck forum specifically to ask about an ATV? If you want a carb you can just bolt onto the machine and works right, go and get the right carb from your local honda dealer. If you want a carb that might only kinda works, and you might have to keep messing with it, then get some other random carb and install it.

Insightful.

Find an ATV and/or a Honda forum or facebook group, of which there are a whole bunch, people there will have a much better idea for what you should do with your carb.
