Help choosing flares (Pics if ya got em)

2168 Views 26 Replies 9 Participants Last post by  Andy
I am trying to decide on a set of flares for my truck. I have a 01 GMC Z71 with a 6-8 inch CST lift and 35x12.50 SSRs on 16x10 wheels. The truck does not have stock flares.
First, I don't want to cut. Second, I don't want the look of "pocket" flares.

What are my options? I have come up with:
Get a set of OEMs.
Bushwhacker OE style.
Bushwhacker Extend-a-Fender style
Warn 4X Flares
Xenon Flares

Anything else I should be considering?
Which one of these is the widest?
If you have any pics of these installed, please post em.
FWIW, I am leaning toward the Bushwhacker Extend-a-Fender style.

Personally I really like the Bushwhacker Extend-a-Fender myself. I think of all the above they look the best.

I have attached a picture of Ptowns old shorty with Bushwhacker Extend-a-Fender colormatched.

Looks real good IMO. :read:

So do you already have flares? If not, are you going to go with these.
BTW What did my truck look like?
Nope I dont have flares now. Im going to wait and see how she looks w/o them for now and when Im ready for a little change I will get those b/c I like those the best by far.

It looked good, but not as good as it will when you get those tires down there and bolted on:read: :head:
I got the stock ones color matched from the dealer for around $300 for the set.
Thanks for the input guys. I guess I didn't miss any of the major options. 00sierra, I was planning on having them painted to match. If I go with the OEMs that might save some trouble if I can buy them pre-painted. I wonder how much wider the Bushwacker extend-a-flares are than the OEMs? This might be a harder decision than I thought. Those OEMs aren't bad looking.
the Bushwackers give you 1 3/4" additional coverage If I remember correctly.
The OEM Flares are not that wide. I do not have any numbers (maby someone else can help out here) but I know they do not offer as much coverage as the Extend-a-fender's do.

4wp has them for $352 a set.. So im sure you can find a lower price than 4wp if you search hard enough.
I have those bushwackers extendaflares up front, the really dont cover to well with my 16x10's, i'm going with the warn 4x flare soon

I couldn't tell from that crappy pic on Warn's website just how wide they were. It didn't look like they were much wider if any at all. BTW, Kyle what type of lift are you running? IE do you have a knuckle lift that makes the wheels stick out more than usual?
Wow, Warn should pay you to put those pics on their site. They look a lot better than i thought. Now its going to be even harder to decide. OK all you guys are going to have to drive over to my house so I can see them in person and compare them side by side. :D

One question. It looks like the Warn and the Bushwhacker both have a smooth finish, not a textured one. Is this true?

Seriously, thanks to all of you for taking the time to post pics and give opinions. It has been a big help. Now I just have to make up my mind.
I can't speak for Bushwacker, but the Warns came smooth and flat black. These are painted with an Acrylic Black Paint.

Took me and Bro-in-Law about 45 minutes to install. They are held on with sheet metal screws and double sided tape.

I have the stock flares, and love the look of them. My truck didnt come with them though, I got them cheap from a guy that took them off his truck. I left them black, cause I like the look of black flares. If I hadnt got such a great deal on these, I would have gone with the Warn 4x flares, because they are really good looking too. Here's what mine looks like...

vhato, Your truck looks real good, just curious as to what size tires you have and what type of lift. Are they the 36 x 14.50s?
