Started with increasing voltage so checked and was told needed a new alternator. Replaced it and the issue has gotten increasingly worse. It not only red lines but is maxed out. When this started and i turned off the vehicle the voltage guage would stay at roughly 12 now it goes from½ inch passed 19 back down to 19. Has anyone had similar issues? 2006 tahoe z71

Thanks in advance

There is no "overload" problem or need for any special kind of voltmeter to test voltage at the battery or most other parts of the truck.

Very possible the new alternator is faulty. With the grounds all cleaned and accounted for it's got to be a bad wire or connector causing the issue. I would check for mouse damage also..
I'm still fixing the wrath of the little bastards.
FYI make sure mama doesn't put a bird feeder anywhere near your parking spot!
