so my buddy bought an 84 gmc k2500 and it has the 8 lug 14 bolt sf 9.5" in it. he said he would give it to me. any good? i don't know much about the swaps into the nbs trucks. any advise would be great.

edit:i should have added. i want to convert it to 6 lug and disc brakes. i already have disc's on my truck btw. what about the perches and axle width? the only 14 bolt swaps i have seen on here are ones out of a 2wd obs.

Youll have to buy 2 new rims, wont be able to rotate tires, but it's a good upgrade from the 10 bolt.

If you accept his free 8lug 14sf all you'd need is some 6lug shafts. They can be had for a couple hundred bucks on the interwebz.

Edit* Was beaten to the idea.

New axle shafts and u good son
He's going to have to move the spring perches out some. The NBS perch width is 49" while the spring perch on '73-'87 1 tons are 40.5" and the 1/2 and 3/4 ton trucks are 42.5".

Not sure on that year model but I know most of them you have to move the leaf spring perches and shock mounts out an inch.
The OBS perch width is 47" and the NBS perch width is 49". The OP has access to an axle from an OOBS. Rear spring pad widths are in my last post.

thanks for the measurements daniel. i figured i would have to move them. that is not a problem. i'm guessing they make 6 lug shafts ready for disc brakes then? what about total over all width compared to my 10 bolt?

It should be the same width as your 10bolt. All semifloating shafts are ready for disks. You just need to buy a kit, some rotors and calipers or get someone to make you a flange like I did Chris and use your 10bolt backing plate, calipers and rotors.

ok now i understand it better. width is the same so don't have to worry about spacers. all i need to find are 6 lug 9.5 axle shafts to swap in and do the disc brake conversion kit. is chris the one on pt.net that made the spacer to use the nbs brakes? is he still making those?

i have a set of six lug shafts outta a 4wd 91 3/4 ton truck.
how about you measure them for our gentleman and report back to us. This could be great info to add to the FAQ. Bub can then measure his shafts to see if those are compatible.

BTW custom shafts arent that much money espcially for a rear axle application.
