Hello all,

I'm a bit curious as to what I have here with a 2000 Chevy 2500 4x4 Extended Cab Short Box pickup I'm looking at buying. It appears to be a bit of a unicorn in some ways.
I've run the VIN, matched the door sticker info etc and what perplexes me is the single square headlight and 5.7 non LS engine???? The truck was built in March 2000 according to the info on the door tag.

I would have expected a 5.3 or a 6.0 engine for this model year?

I have not been able to find any info online regarding and curious if this going to be a hassle finding parts or???? Located in Canada and all other comparable years have a different grill with the the modern rectangular headlights and LS motors.

Thoughts??

The truck is in incredible shape overall and cheap......but is it too good to be true? I've been out of the loop for too many years it seems as I focused on the 60's and 70's hot rods and lost track of the various configurations.

Thank you

I believe the 4 headlight grille assembly will fit somewhat. It's not like Chevy to stamp out 2 different core supports for the same truck. Damn things probably pre punched too. Northern truck but no holes in it.

not a unicorn. it's built on the gmt400 platform. GM had already switched to the GMT800 platform for the 1500's, but it took them longer to switch the 2500 and 3500's over to it, so '99 and I think '00, GM was still producing them relatively unchanged from previous years, before switching everything over to the GMT800 platform.

Thank you for the information, truly appreciated that it’s thankfully not as unique as I thought. It helps point me to making sure any parts I get are better served from the 99-00 era.

Appreciate that info regarding the other assembly, I like it better and will do more digging.

2000 was a big change year for GM, and as per usual the 2500/3500 trucks usually don’t come out until a model year after the half tons. They made both new and old body style 2000 model 2500 trucks, I’m assuming the old body style/ gmt400 platform continues into model year 2000 trucks to use up existing parts stock they had.

Not really a unicorn. I had a 2000 new body style with the LQ4 6.0L, and it was an odd one since the 2500HD Silverados didn’t come out until 2001. My truck had the 99-02 half ton style front end. Bumper, grille, and hood, but used a mix of parts from the 1500’s, what would later be the 2500HD trucks, and a few things specific to the 2500 and again later 1500HD trucks.

as for getting parts just go by it being a 1998/99 year truck since most parts houses and etc don’t acknowledge a 2000 model year gmt400 2500 truck.
