Losing power to radio

I put a new sterio in my '90 Chevy 1500 and i don't keep constant power. It runs perfect when the truck is running but when I turn it off all of the presets reset. I was wondering if i could just run a line strait from the battery to the radio or if there was a better place to do it from. ie: cigarette lighter or relay box? Give me anything you got.

I assume aftermarket radio.... with that said there should be two power sources. One switched source for powering the deck. The second should be battery for memory. That has a tiny draw and won't run your battery dead. Sounds like un-switched power is not connected. Cigarette lighter is a good place for non-switched power.
