They were a bitch to put in! Nothing went right from the time we started till when we stopped. The drivers side headers barely rubs up against the 4x4 driveshaft. I mean just barely though. After driving it around it quit rubbing because the balancing weight on the shaft and the bolts holding the driveshaft on wore down to where they dont touch any more. Not bad enough to hurt anything though.

The exhaust that I took off to put the headers on were dual 2.25 in pipe from the Y back to two flowmaster 40 series mufflers. With both stock cats.
0-60 was 8.1
0-90 was 16.5
20-90 was 15

Now with just the headers and Y, no muffler or cats.
0-60 is 8.3
20-90 is 14.4
Have to get the 0-90 later. This was with 1/2 tank of gas, a passenger, all my stock exhaust in the bed except the manifolds.

Definantly lost some low end, but thats from no muffler or cats.
Should I see a big improvement from putting a muffler and cat back on?
Will it hurt my truck to drive it around with just the headers and Y?
Also, I know I have to retune my computer to delete the rear O2 sensors, but will I need to tune for the headers also?

Yea, your going to want to put some mufflers on there. You lose a good bit a low end taking them off.

In for the pics:pepper:

Also, I think you need to get a tune for the headers since its allowing more air flow and what not. Just talk to justin and he will help ya.

I don't have pics of the install, but I will get pics of them on the truck along with the y.
It definantly needs a muffler! Loud as hell! I kinda like it though. It's funny when I drive by someone walking down the road and I floor it, it scares the sh$t out of them. I know that's mean, but it's extremely funny.
Can't wait to get the muffler and re-tuned to see how much these really helped out.

when you talk to justin , he will tune it appropriately for the headers. I told him all the stuff I did to mine and thats what he did. Do you have a vette servo? if not, throw one in before the tune and make sure you tell him about it.

Hopefully it works this time.

This is where my exhaust ends, right before the torsion keys

^^^ exactly where I got mine from. Its WELL worth the $20. It looks like the new exhaust setup will be in your way a little bit, might have to take some of it apart.
Cool thanks guys. Did you install the servo yourself? Ya it will be in the way I think, atleast its not all welded together so it will come apart. Did your headers rub on your front driveshaft?

I'm sure you did, but it's not because there's no mufflers or catalysts.

No. In fact, mufflers and catalysts will likely cause a slight, if unnoticeable, DECREASE in performance.

No, but it will probably affect your hearing, draw unwanted attention from The Law, and earn you scorn from your neighbors.

No and Yes. It will not hurt the engine if you do not have it retuned. However, to get the most performance from this, as any mod, it would need tuning.

The lost low-end you mentioned is most likely due to a combination of factors...

1) the less restrictive exhaust has likely affected your A/F ratios. This is where proper tuning will benefit.

2) your exhaust velocity & scavenging may now be less than optimal. The fix is to restore the secondary exhaust piping, with or without mufflers and/or catalysts. Remember...backpressure = bad...exhaust gas velocity = good. Longer exhaust piping will help to restore this lost velocity.

3) your power peak, both TQ & HP, has now been moved upwards in the RPM range. Proper tuning & exhaust piping may help to move the peaks back closer to where they were, but most likely, unless you plan other mods, you will simply need to recalibrate your butt dyno to the new powerband.

3) some of the "loss" is likely perceived, rather than actual. The actual performace is now out of proportion to the new exhuast volume. It sounds much faster, yet doesn't neccesarily "feel" faster, so you probably imagine that you've somehow lost performance.

Dang, thanks for all the answers.
I put my old flowmaster 40 back on and dumped it before the axle, but I couldnt tell you if it helped because I have been driving around with the cut out open :worship: One of these days Ill close it and see if it helps.

I know I didnt really "lose" any power, it just feels like it. It pulls harder up top, really helped from 85-100.

So if I ran the exhaust all the way out the back would it be a noticeable improvement down low? I think ill do that then, eventually.

Thanks again!
