Learned a lot today about rear bumpers. Specifically interchangeability of the SUV bumpers. I am very disappointed with the rear denali bumper I bought off a FB marketplace sale. Its my fault, I should have inspected it more closely, but 0-degree temps I gave it a rough look, and loaded it into my truck. The inner supports were severely rotted.

Went back to LMC trying to locate the inner pieces. After further research I found out the bottom hitch/step support is identical on all bumpers. But the issue is the inner shell was the rotted off part. Inspecting my bumper closer I couldn't help but realize how similar they were.

I proceeded to remove the denail bumper cover and exposed what seemed to be a GM Z71 package painted steel bumper.

I removed the pastic trim pieces from my chrome dented up bumper and slid that into the denali cover, amazingly everything lines up!!! This saves me from needing the $130 steel bumper to insert.

that had to have been miserable
It wasn't fun for sure! I'd say most pieces came off in a 1-inch by 1-inch fashion. Some bigger ones. Mostly smaller ones.

I am definitely not going to do the center. Just peeled the loose pieces, and will attack with a palm sander.

Plan is to black everything, and eventually get headlights with black backing or lightly smoked.

If it wasn't for the damn kids I would pull the 2nd row out permanently. I like having all of that space and if I do have more than 1 passenger they have a ton of room in the back seat.

On my old OBS suburban I had the 60/40 split bench for a second row, I removed the "40" section and really liked it. Gave the dog a great place to lay when the kids were in the truck on trips. Almost like the old minivans but cooler because it was a suburban. lol

Replaced the 1 year old POS noisy Cardone reman PS pump with the help of a buddy. This unit is a NAPA reman. Fingers crossed.

Also got the junkyard rear coil bags installed. Drovers side rocker sized, and tacked!

Well, came up with a quick lick and stick to hide the gaping hole I punched out in the rear quarter panel. My initial plan was to complete the replacement this winter, but I've run out of time. Will have to wait till next winter. In the meantime denali cladding to hide the hole. Unfortunately these are off the regular Yukon and not the xl so they are short, but color matched black for $15. Will keep on the lookout for actual XL length ones in the meantime, but ultimately temporary.

More progress. We do have a leak in the airbag system. Tested the bags prior to install so it has to be a line connection. Doing a mediocre touch up on the passenger rear well arch. Rockers are welded, contemplating on do any bondo as its nearly all covered by the plastic rocker covers. Started my hand with a dent popper and light hammering to smooth out the passenger rear quarter. It is dented good from what looks like a bollard by 2 POs' ago. Got the big part out but now have 2 smaller dimples. Trying to get the denali cladding to adhere properly.

This thing needs to be done within the next 2 weekends for some shakedown runs before TN.

So another find at the junkyard was the OEM wireless headset/remote kit from an 05 Yukon Denali. Even in the original cardboard box. The foam muff covers are disintegrated, but curious to see if they will work with my RSE. Anyone used these in the past?
