there's a flat spot on the inside of the mirror housing base near where it mounts to the door, assuming this piece is hollow, can i drill it and mount a 4' firestick on it? anyone tried this?

I would think that a 4' firestick would rip the plastic apart the first time it bumped into something, that stuff isn't very thick....
:word: I really dont know how long that plastic will last. Probably not very long. Even the wind going down the highway would put alot of force on it and probably crack it in no time.
If you want it up front like that, maby a mount that comes up between the hood and the body? Just an Idea.

***EDIT***

The way DE has is is my favorite place IMO.. If I had 2 Id put it just like that (on the side of my tool box)
My 8ft. is currently on my passenger side bumper. But use to be center cab bed mounted.

You've never seen "Smokey and the Bandit"? Man that's a good ass movie! It was made a long time ago though. But you need to watch the first one the others aren't any good. They use CB radios all through the movie. That's why he said that. He was just playiong around! :anitoof:

Im not sure where the name came from, but it is CB/Trucker talk for police.
They use it in the movie, but that is not where it came from lol.

BTW.. That is one of my all time favorite movies

u know them smokies they got them there CB radios in there car know.
dude don't do that to your truck. :badidea:
i'm a truck driver.

they come in handy in my 4wheeler too. if i see a rig with a taillight out, i can tell him over the CB and he can get it fixed before the DOT sees it. common trucker courtesty.

stake pockets won't work since i'm adding a shell. maybe i'll figure out some way to mount them to it.

Make sure to get the heavy duty springs for them, I bash those bitches on everything from drive in overhangs to trees, the heavy duty springs allow them to bend all the way down into the bed and still keeps them up decently straight at 80. The medium or light ones would be to weak for 4ft ones. I almost wish my springs were stiffer.

yeah forget the mirror mounting. It's all plastic so even if it was strong enough to support it you would have a bad RF ground and would lose signal strength. Permanent mount in the center of your roof is the best place for any antenna. After that mag mount, bumper mount, then stake pockets are the best options.
