maybe the wires from the switch in the steering column? A good scan tool that does live data and trans data will be helpful with diagnosing the problem

Exactly. They are the first place to look.

Yep, 98% sure it’s the wires in the steering column. That’s very common in the NBS trucks and SUV’s. Mine were broken in my 02 Yukon.

Had that very same problem with my 02' Yukon. It was the wire in the column. It had got pinched with the tilt steering wheel.

Just had the same problem and fixed it.
Wires ripped apart due to the shifter being moved back in forth during time.
