NBS tailgates & shaving them...

Ok, I just got done shaving my second NBS tailgate and I've noticed something on both that makes this job more work than normal.

I just did pewter00's gate today and when I pulled off the bezel and then unbolted the handle assembly I see that the center area of the gate is lightly warped. Basically it dips juts above the stamped hole and does so more below the stamped hole. This made the final prep work really tedious. I'm not really complaining but has anyone else noticed that the NBS gates are doing this? I hadn't done squat but remove the stock handle. Kinda sucks IMO....just wondering if I'm the only one. This has been the same, identically, on 2 NBS gates before I started to weld on it.

Yep they are all like that.
Ok....kinda good to know. What have people been doing to fix it? Just fill it smooth or brace it?

I believe just fill it smooth. Not sure though.
what sucks on the obs trucks is that from using the tailgate, the metal bows up right under the handle from useage. This makes it fun :insane:

That's all I did...ok. This one wasn't as bad as the first one but it's one of those things that made me wonder.....

LOL...yeah. The edges of the pan were pretty good. Didn't need much but most was around the lower edges. The tail filler was a different story. Since they are taking the bed to get done in the next week or two i left it pretty rough since the shop will do all the finish prep and fix his bed rails. I couldn't believe the splits in his bed rails...I've been trying to figure out what someone could have dropped on the bed to split the metal...

cam dont worry about it... i borrowed chris's sander and some 100 grit sand paper and went at it... its almost PERFECTLY smooth now besides a little dimple you can barely see.. we re primed it all it it looks near perfect.. i just wanna thank you for doin it... theres so much you coulda just not done and i would have prolly never known about but you spent all the extra time doin it :rocking: :rocking:
Cam did you use a relocator kit or just cut the backside with just enough room to put the handle bezel back on?
i'll post pics when it gets out of the paint shop

most nbs tailgates i've seen shaved bow in the middle. Mine doesn't but alot of the shops that do they simply don't fix them. If you look at the reflection off the tailgate it bows where the handle used to be. It prbly one of the more annoying thing that people don't do to finish up their trucks... i always thought it was poor shaving, but i guess its more of laziness.
