So I bought my 94 C1500 Ext Cab 2WD (auto) for $400, when I bought it I knew it had Trans issues, 3rd(D) slips like it isn't even there. I have no Idea of OD it there or not, never got the truck going fast enough. On the way home the Engine started to sound like an air compressor, sounded like it was coming from cyl 1. A compress test put cyl 1 @ 90 psi, with the rest I tested at 120psi, Changed the Plugs because they had some kind of Build up on 3 of them. I am in the pulling the motor, since I am sure it is a bottom end issue.

I am pretty sure the trans is a 4l60, since the linkage looks all mechanical, and their looks to be a single plug with two wires near the tail shaft. I was wonder if I can get a 4x4 trans to bolt up, or if not what vehicles to pull from the junk yard.

I have also considered a Manual trans swap if I can find the parts at a good price.

I am still on the fence if I want to rebuild the motor or swap in a different one. If I could find one locally I would swap in a 4.8L.

I have never rebuilt a Small block chevy before, I am more familiar with Wankel rotary engines.

find out what you want

dropping a 4.8 in is not just drop it in and there you go

You have not asked any questions but just stated a lot of things. Make up your mind. And yes its a 4l60e

But will a trans from a k1500 of the same year bolt up with a little part swapping? I found a few of the in the junkyard, also some G vans with 4.3Ls.

I would like to apologize for my confusing wording as well.

For Right now I need to get the truck in a drive able state, so I am going to rebuild the motor while fighting the urge to replace every thing with performance parts or a build a 383 stroker out of it. It isn't in the budget.

alot of work turning a 4wd tranny into a 2wd
you can use the 4l60 from a astro or fullsize van
but double check what years will work,I believe there is a early 90's and late 90's 4l60

Is it the same trans on the 4.3?
yes
the tq converter is slightly different and will stall a couple 100 rpms higher with a v8 but it will hardly be noticeable

Thanks for the help. are there any tricks or tips for removing the Trans. I am currently using the brief daylight after work to remove the motor and trans? So far I have the drive shaft, and Rad removed and the exhaust almost removed. I wish my garage was bigger the truck is too long for it.

Plug your info into car-part.com to see what year and makes will work.

Guardrail
I looked it up, and found it 93-94 full size trucks or vans with a 5.0 or 5.7 V8 2wd.

And another note, are there any upgraded enignes interals that you guy recommend since I plan on rebuilding the engine. I have no power goals as of yet, but later on I may get bored and have extra money.

The main puzzling thing for me are all the cam choices that are out there, and since I am tearing the motor down I may as well swap the cam.

The truck will be a daily driver and I am just looking for a little more grunt.
