I had just recently bought a 2004 1500 with 122k. well the dealership i got it from gave me a 30 day/1000 mile warrenty but cant exceed $500. i drove a couple hundred miles and then smelled my trans when i stopped. looked and it was dry, they didnt have it full and stupid me didnt check. cutting to the chase. if he doesnt fix it (little bit of slipping and some clunking which may be yoke or u-joint) ill need to buy one myself. so my main question is, whats the best heavy duty trans for the money. if im going to drop $$$ into a trans i want it to last me more than 2 weeks the way i drive.

What are your plans for the truck? A moderately built 4l60e will do just fine and then some if the truck is staying stock or close to it. You can search around and look at the pros and cons of each brands. If you're wanting to add serious horsepower, 400+, then I'd look into doing an 80E swap

for right now i plan on keeping it relativity stock. ill be adding headers/exhaust, CAI, tuner. and lift and tires. but im living off and enlisted budget with a truck payment and insurance. i was thinking of like a monster ss trans but if i can find a good builder somewhat close here ill have someone build it.
