Hey everyone I have an '84 C2500 with the 454 and I'm concerned that my oil pressure might be a little low. I'm running about 20psi on it right now and I'm just wondering, what is the normal oil pressure for the 7.4L?
New here, bbc oil pressure?

is it 20 psi at idle while warmed up or is it that low at all RPM? if it`s that low all the time you could have a problem.
i had a similar problem that turned out to be the oil pressue sending unit so i would look into that before anything else.

Well, it was running at 20psi the whole time. But it's really odd, I went out and bought a brand new sending unit and put it in (I also tested the stock guage, it was fine) and even with the new sender it was reading 20psi at all rpms. So I took the oil pan off and the oil pump out to make sure the screen was still connected and not clogged. I also made sure the pump was all good since I had it out. I put averything back together and it still wasn't working. At this point I'm pissed couse it could be numerous other things. So, I decided I'd go buy an after market gauge kit. I put in the new gauge, which is mechanical so it eliminated the sending unit all together and relaced it with a small tube that runs oil from the block to the gauge. Now it's fine. I'm getting between 25 and 35psi at idle and between 35 and 45 when I open the throttle. So, I think it may have had something to do with the sending unit, but it's running great now.
