Alright guys, I got around to install my Doug Thorley Tri-Y's and ORY on my NNBS 5.3L. Contrary to what people on this forums say, I think my truck sounds great at IDLE with the Flowmaster 40 series and dumped. The problem is that there's a little drone on the freeway and its raspy as hell and it pops. What setup would y'all recommend? It sounds great at idle, but I want to clean up the sound. I was thinking the Borla Pro-XS, 18 inch Magnaflow and the Borla XR-1 with a bullet. Which would sound decently loud but would sound the cleanest? Thanks

I've got the thorleys and am running a gmpp muffler, which is a borla and a dynomax ultraflow all in line to help cut the drone. It's really mild at idle, but it sounds nice and smooth when you get on it. Not raspy at all, and no popping. This is my truck, the video doesn't do it justice.

Mine is 5.3L with AMR headers same muffler as hunterdan. Sounds exactly the same . Nice and mellow at idle, but sounds aggressive when you get on it.

I run I similar set up with 2.5 inch duals with an X-pipe into dual cherry bomb pros. Most say it's bad without cats but a good set up is fine.

I have the thorley lt/ory with pretty much the biggest muffler magnaflow makes. I ended up having to change it from dumped before the axle to make it dump right before the rear bumper. Helped the sound a lot but still pretty loud when you get on it.

I'm running the thorley's with a flo-pro maxx (knock off magnaflow). Best 30 dollars I've ever spent. It replaced a dynomax bullet 18", it sounded so wicked at high rpms but had a wicked drone and popped like crazy under normal accelerations.

The Flo Pro has zero drone, sounds great at idle, and incredible at WOT. Very pleased..

I ended up going with a SI/DO Borla Pro-XS with turndown tips. It sounds waaay more tame than my old Flowmaster 40 Series. That thing popped like crazy under normal acceleration. I'm pleased with the volume levels when I'm cruising on the highway, but at idle and when I'm around town it's almost too quiet. Debating on getting the XR-1 and putting a resonator or bullet before it if it gets too loud. What I want is a muffler that sounds aggressive, but not poppy when I'm driving around the city, but pretty quiet when I'm on the highway.

I think a si/so oval 18" magnaflow or similar (Jones/Flo Pro) would make for tolerable exhaust depending on how you route it.
I've also considered the Dynomax VT, scarber08 I've seen your videos and that muffler has kind of influenced me to go that route if I don't get the XR-1. Pros and cons about the Dynomax VT? Thanks guys for the input. Also, when I have time, I need to post some pics of my truck. Haven't gotten around to that yet.

The VT was a nice idea but in practice it didn't work (for me). I think over time the spring loses strength and the flapper opens more freely. My primary issue was that even with it dumped over the axle and near the bumper that I still got drone after a month. On start up the flapper causes a fluttering sound. The muffler itself is very raspy. Overall it's comparable to a 4x9x14 magnaflow or similar muffler.
