ok I went truck shopping today and found the ecact opposite of what at all lots.finally a dealership had a 04.5 and a 07 classic both crew cab short beds nicely loaded.both looked to be in great shape.the 04 had a mbrp exhaust but would puff black smoke on start up and continuously smoked throughout the drive.it felt strong but I think it has been hurt before because the guy said the injectors had '' just been replaced '' and just that year model did that.I don't know much about diesel's but that seemed funky.the 07 just felt perfect and im in love with the turbo whistling at every throttle response bout gave me a hard on but this truck also had boost gauges on the pillar.should I keep looking or jump on the 07?

01-04 LB7s are great, only problem are injectors, but mine made it 130,000 miles before any problems, and I have had no problems since. 06-07 LBZ would be the best option if you can afford it, it has the VVT turbo and the 6 speed allison. AVOID 04.5 to 05 LLYs as they had overheating problems. Forget about anything Banks, it is the biggest waste you could spend on your truck next to Edge. If you want simple go with a PPE Economy, if you want more, look up Diesel Addiction out towards the coast, they can hook you up with a EFI live tune, even a DSP5 tune with 5 settings.

If you are interested, I am about to put my 03 GMC Dmax up for sale for $15,500.
