Knock on wood I've had my truck for 2+ years and I put orange drls in and have never had a problem. I think it was caused from an inproper ground or something. Don't quote me on that.
My boss used to have a 01 chevy that had that same problem.

Buy longer life (LL) bulbs. I get Sylvania 3157LL, 4157 LL will work too. I read that 3057 bulbs, had some issues. The Sylvania brand has amber colored bulbs, than yellow, or you can buy clear ones.

I thought issue was the result of varying voltage to the DRL's that caused them to go out.

I disabled mine. Totally solved the problem. But if you want to keep them, I'd try the LL bulbs or maybe some LED's

GM is aware of the problem. It has to do with voltage.

Daytime running lamp bulb replacement. All 99 up GM trucks.

A new 14 volt DRL bulb, P/N 15199562 (trade bulb #4114K) is now available whenever a DRL lamp bulb on the above listed vehicles requires replacement. This more robust, higher voltage DRL bulb replaces P/N 1999482 (trade bulb #4157K).
These bulbs should be replaced in pairs.

My 04 does the same thing. passenger side is always out. you can tap it and it will come on sometimes. so basically just go pick up a pack of 4114 bulbs and that solves it correct?

Check the socket, it may be burnt out.

Replace sockets, install Long Life bulbs (4114LL)

My DRL went out last week. I finally got time to pull it out and apart and it almost looks like it caught on fire.

Going to head to the store and pick up a new socket for both sides and some 4114LL's as well.
