Ive only had my nnbs for a week, its a brand new 09 rcsb 4x4 i was just looking under it today and i noticed my drive shaft and spindles are completly coated in rust. is this normal? or should i take it back to the dealer. everything else under it looks brand new. the rear drive shaft is rusted from ujoint to ujoint although the ujoints themselfs are fine. also i live in central California and my truck hasnt even seen the rain since ive owned it.

completely normal. although i would hit the shaft with some spray paint just cause its ugly.
That's what raw uncoated steel does.
damn, thanks for the quick replys. for some reason i thought the draft shaft was aluminum. i guess that wouldnt rust anyway. gonna paint it i think.

Mine is Al, but I think it depends on what cob/box configuration it has.
nope, the aluminum shafts don't rust. :D

it looks aluminum other than the rust. its thick as hell like 5inches
some are steel, some aluminum. mine is aluminum for the rear, steel for the front. same thing, rust. its normal, dont worry about it. going to the dealer for some things is a waste of time, and thats one of them.

Well unless you drove through some red dust that somehow stuck to the aluminum....

Take a magnet down there and find out if you can't tell by looking at it.
its steel, its rusted oh well :(
Typical GM stuff, big deal.
spend the $5 on a can of rustoleum already
I love my aluminum dshaft
It's a GM, what did you expect?
I though GM went all Aluminum drive shaft in NNBS?
intersting

every NNBS I've seen has an aluminum drive shaft. But maybe that's cause I live in rust country so they put them on all the truck destined for up here?

as said before, the spindles rusting is normal
FWIW, my 2002 driveshaft is aluminum.

The nice thing about GM's rust is that, unlike Toyota's, it isn't rot...the structure stays strong even if there's visible rust.
