I installed a push button start in my truck about 3 months ago.

If you press the button once it turns on the accessories so you can listen to the radio.

If you put you're foot on the brake and press the button the car will start.

And if its running you just tap the button again to shut it off.

The Whole push button system is tied into my RFID system which will only send power to the button if im within 6 feet of the truck and it will automatically unlock the doors. If im past 6 feet the doors lock and the alarm arms..

Here's the video of the push button start working. (sound quality is bad, and radio blasts, lol)

Ill get a pic of the button posted up later.

Re: Push Buton Start

I use a system called the K9 sombra, its an alarm/RFID i got it on ebay for around $60

I also used a remote start module with a latching relay system.

There are quite a few wires to hook up, i would never do it again and there were some kinks to work out.

If you'd like i can try to help you out if you get the stuff for it.

Yes. Absolutely. This it?

Also, as I have a 2002, there may be numerous differences in wiring the BCM.

Re: Push Buton Start

I have been searching for this for awhile now and I tried so many searches and then I tried..."keyless push button start" and I found this. This would be the way to go. Gives you that factory installed look, feel and use.

Keyless Push Button Start

Hope this helps someone out. It is a lil pricey but I think it is well worth it. I might have to get this for a future project.

Hm, I thought this would be cool to have in my Cadillac. But the truck would be neat too. Saved for future reference.

Re: Push Buton Start

but you still need to insert your key and turn it to get the wheel to unlock correct?

cool idea, but seriously, whats another 1/8th of a turn
actually my truck did not come sith steering lock, and i disabled the shift lock. sooo i dont even need to take the keys out of my pocket.

I plan on running this system in my project truck...

That system seems good, but i made mine for less than half of that price. and when working on a budget, all is good when money is saved.

Yea I like how you did the same for less money, good job man :shake: a write up would sure be cool.

And technically you would need the key to unlock the wheel, but the directions state disabling the wheel lock, which I'll do and then make a custom steering wheel cover to eliminate the key area.

2001 was the last year for steering wheel locks in GM Trucks.

Re: Push Buton Start

My 2001 doesn't have a steering wheel lock.
Then you have a late build 2001 that received a revised 2002 column.

Taken from GM Service Bulletin #00-02-35-003N in regard to replacing the IIS.

Notice: On the 2002 and later model year vehicles, the steering column LOCK was removed from the steering column. It is critical that the J 42640 - Steering column Anti-Rotation Pin is used when servicing steering columns on 2002 and later model year vehicles. Failure to use the J 42640 may result in damage to the SIR coil.
