Hey guys, I've got a 06 5.3l crew cab with the stock Cats & Y-pipe. I was working on my tranny Xmember mounts today and was kind of looking at the Y-pipe. It looks like it hangs below the frame a lot. I was hoping someone on here could provide some pictures of where they cut their pipes at and raised them. It doesn't look like there's a lot of room above the Cats since the O2 Sensors are there. I tried searching and didn't really find anything.

I need to stop by my cousins exhaust shop and ask him how much to raise it. Then we will work on raising my tranny xmember when we drop truck i guess.

Had mine done at a muffler shop, cost $80. Just takes a couple pie cuts right after the cats. I ended up having to add a lot more for the bd. pretty easy once you get in there and do it. I believe I have some pictures in my "numatk" thread over in the under construction forum.

In this pic the original cuts are the ones right behind the cats and the one that is in the center. The rest are from me getting it to work with less room from bd. The 2 by the cats were just pie cuts, the other was a cut all the way through.

I was hoping you'd post. Thanks for the pictures. I'd like to just make all the cuts below the cats since changing the position of them can make me fail a visual inspection if the smog guys want to be dicks.

They look at the cats and can tell if they are moved? I don't see why they would care if they are there and functional. I'm so glad I don't have to deal with that BS.
Anyway, just do as many pie cuts as it takes. pretty simple if you can weld. A lift helps too. I had to do it all with the truck only 1' off the ground and by myself.

Thats what I've been told. Haha. Oh well. If they give me
any shit I'll just explain to them that it's all stock stuff and had to
be moved around for clearance issues. I'll be doing it myself with it on jackstands. I'm hoping to be able to start on the Y-Pipe In the next few days. I finished my gas tank crossmembers today. I just need to weld them on, then finish my transmission cross member mounts.

Interesting, so a exhaust shop can make the cats work without sectioning the cab for a 3" BD?

Another option: I had an entire new mandrel y-pipe made. I ran my driver side pipe over the trans crossmember and under the tailshaft of the trans back to the merge. Makes for a cool transmission and pan drops are a breeze. Smog shops won't hassle you for rotating the cats from my experience.

$80-100 just for a y-pipe raise and $200-250 for a new mandrel Y. Even cheaper if you go the crimp route.

Thanks for the reply. I think I can do the Y-pipe myself.

Hey Aaron do you mind if I PM you with a question or two? My brother was supposed to be helping me with this project, but apparently his girlfriend controls who he spends his time with. Haha. So looks like I'll be doing everything else myself.

I went by today he said get my tranny xmember sectioned first then he will raise exhaust level with it. He said it couldnt be done at first cause of the floor getting hot then i showed him how i wanted it done and then he told me between $35-$50 and he will have it done. So i will be stopping by there once i drop since were doing the crossmembers then.

It's really not that bad, only over speedbumps and into steep driveways/entrances.
