I wanted to know if anybody can let me know what kind of oil do I use in my rear axle off my 1997 GMC suburban C1500 is it synthetic or regular

80w90 cheap stuff

Take a look on the round cover for a metal tag which would mean it's limited slip count the bolts, 12 or more is probably positive traction and takes a high grade fluid, if it's hi miles use 90-140 synthetic or regular your choice.

A 97 half ton will be a 10 bolt and if it has a factory G80 locker, you are not supposed to use additive. Regular 80w90 is just fine for these axles.
