Im replacing my rear quarter panel on the bed of my 04 silverado and I'm wondering what some you guys use for grinders. I have a makita angle head with a 3 or 4 inch disc but I think that is going to be tough to use in that little grove along the bedside. What would be my best bet to get my welds smooth?

Picture just for the hell of it. I thought about pulling the dents out and doing some bond work but although the picture doesn't show it great, the panel is in pretty rough shape. Plus I figured welding a new panel in would be a good warm up before I tackle my rockers/cab corners!

I usually use a cut off wheel on edge to get the bulk of the weld down, then smooth it with my 2" angle grinder. Then I use a small spot blaster on the spot weld area to remove any thing the grinder can't get, and will show you if you missed anything. Then put a little fiberglass filler over the weld to make sure it's smooth and hit it with some primer.

I just did mine a few weeks ago.

hope something helps
