My mother died with five months left on her Chevy lease. After learning that GM Financial doesn't allow lease transfers in the last six months of a lease, I decided to just keep making the payments and drive the car until the end of the lease. Now that the lease ends next week, I am returning the car to the original dealership tomorrow. It's got less than 15K miles on it, no dents, no flaws except I didn't bother to get the inside cleaned. My idea was to just park the car, drop the fobs off at the front desk and say "I'm returning my late mother's lease, have a nice day" and split. I'm thinking I should refuse to sign anything, so they don't try to make me pay the dispensation fee or anything. Her name was the only one on the lease.

You can just return it with a copy of the death certificate. That should be sufficient. You shouldn’t even be asked to sign anything.
