Rebuilt the carburetor on a 1983 Sierra s15. The carburetor is a Rochester varajet 2se. Reinstalled the carburetor and now it won't stay running. It will start and idle for a min or so then surge and shut off. If I try to give it gas it will shut off. It's getting gas, I've checked the fuel filter and the fuel pump. Im stumped as to what the issue could be. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

I had one on my 82 s10 and if I remember correctly you had to cut a plug out of the base plate to get to one of the jets. If you don't remove the jet when you are cleaning everything it will gum up with crap. For some reason I think the choke settings were really important too, but it may have been my inexperience at the time (first vehicle)

Also that vehicle has a buttload of vacuum lines, I would double check those too.

There is a weber carb conversion you can do and while I never did it, they say it helps all the way around. (MPG and performance)
