Shaking steering wheel while driving?

Hi,

I bought an 08 Silverado new last October. Right from the get go, I noticed it had a shaking steering wheel (back and forth, back and forth) when traveling at higher speeds (65 - 80 mph). It's similar to the shaking you feel when your rotors start going bad.

I took it into the dealer, and they told me they couldn't get a wheel to balance. So they ordered a new one and put it on. This didn't help, the shaking is still there. This truck gets garaged for the summer, and I just took it out and the shaking is still there. Any ideas what could be causing this? I'm going to take it in to the dealer again but want to have a little more knowledge in hopes of pointing them in the right direction of getting it fixed.

Don't know if it matters or not, but the front wheels took a large amount of wheel weights to attempt to balance them.

Thanks!

Maybe alignment? Take it to another shop and get road force balancing done?
It sounds like you are on the right track in thinking that it is the front wheel. If they put a ton of weights on there, it might be better to take the tire off the wheel, remount it, and try again.
Oh yeah, I've heard of people dismounting, rotating the tires 180* and rebalancing with success.

Why don't you try putting the front tires in the rear and see if the vibration moves to the rear?
