Shifter Options ?

ok not sure if I am able to do this but ... i want to convert from my auto colum shifter to a auto floor shifter. B&M offeres a automatic floor shifter, but not sure how hard it will be to install on my truck. It will be for a 96 Z71 Silverado

I can take any input everyone has I want to try and pull this off.

its cable operated so it should be an easy swap
pm Dirt Track Racer on performancetrucks. He has one in his 2000 extended cab
Yeah if you have a link that would be awsome .. we are going to have a look tonight see if we can pull it off.
As others said, its cable operated, so that should be easy. Just get a steering column cover from a manual trans truck. I have a floor mounted B&M Hammer shifter in my 81, I like it, but the damn thing just broke on me and replacement parts are 80 bucks.

It will definitely give you more control through teh gears than the column shift would, and makes it much more difficult to slip it into neutral while shifting on your own.

sweet thanks for the info ... we are going to start taking some measurements this weekend and go from there so hopefully have it in within a couple weeks
I'm about to order a B&M rachet shifter for my 65E.... it can be easily done.
Silver-mod-o, from my experience with my ratchet shifter in my 81, I would go with a street bandit or a race shifter. I was racing mine a bit and the handle wouldn't hold up to the hard shifts, its currently disassembled and it need a new stick which is 50 bucks, and a new trigger, which is 25. When it broke out was pulling it out of park and the trigger broke off and the handle came off in my hand.

I'm replacing the parts just so I can move the truck around the garage, but I know when I rebuild it its getting a Street Bandit Magnum.

Just my recommendation. Although the more I think about it there are more ratchet options then when I got the Hammer for mine. I guess shy away from the Hammer.

What one were you planning on getting?
I will be installing a lokar shifter in mine when I start on my interior, I think its about $200 dollars, I am going for looks though not a race shifter or anything.
Adam..its easily done..jsut cut the floor etc...then look at the console..should be easy to remove the shifter lever..and if you really want you can fill and paint the column after...our wagon we did this
I was originally looking at the B&M megashifter or the quicksilver. My truck has the 4L80E I beleve so those 2 were compatible with my tranny.
If they are compatible with a 700 or 200r4, 4 speed auto, then yes they are compatible. Do you have a center console or do you have an open tranny hump?
