I was wondering if there are any companies that make a shorter fm antenna for nbs chevys. My truck barely fits in the garage and the antenna is really hard on the door frame. i don't want to loose any reception if i can help it.

I cut off about 12" off of mine with a hacksaw to where its below the top of the cab, but I added a 1/8" plug on the end from the help section at autozone.
I used to have a short billet one, but theres a couple radio stations I like to listen to and couldnt get a decent signal so I modified the stocker and it works great.

pics suck (garage) but you get the idea.

My billet shorty gets great reception just like stock, even with an aftermarket HU. That's weird.

Found a couple posts about that...

yes that correct about the panel

okay...
1. remove antenna
2. remove panel
3. remove 3 bolts from antenna mount
4. pull up on the antenna mount and push a little to the upper right to unhook the wire from the body mount
5. pull antenna mount towards you then to the right under the hood and onto the lip for the fender
6. reattach antenna
7. zip tie to the holes in the fender
8. put bolts back in body mount
9. put on new panel

and you are done!

here is a pic that may help

i did the under the hood thing i went under the plastic hood cowl and drilled a hole for it. I did lose reception though. I still get the strong stations. the issue with mine was i pulled too hard on the wire and pulled the wire from the antenna so i had to put it back on i was thinking of putting tv cable ends on it for a better connection.

you could do the amped inside mounted antenna from Metra and just eliminate the stocker with an Escalade cover

i just put the antenna into a vice and put a pair of plyers just before the ball and used a mallet to knock it off, just make sure you have something to catch it so you dont lose it. My first ball came off easy but the second time around it wouldnt just pull off so i did this
