Here's the deal.
I'm looking for more mpg, and no I cannot buy a car

I currently have a 09' CC Sivlerado 4x4 with the 6.0L engine and 3.73 gearing. I am seeing
16mpg (without pulling anything) and this is a 50/50 of freeway/around town. Will it be worth trading it in for a 2011 Colorado, 4x4, 5.3L engine just to try and get a little more mpg?

I need a truck that will pull a trailer (I work construction) for tools or
4-wheelers.

Do the math, buying/trading/owning another vehicle for more mpg takes years to see any savings, if it sees savings at all. Esp. when going from 1 truck to another.
I know gas prices suck, b ut it's not going to get drastically better-ever.

Don't waste your time. I traded my 05 colorado last june for my 08 1500 ltz. Best thing I could have done. I have a real truck now and the fuel mileage difference was 1 to 2 mpg with the 5.3 vs the 3.5. The only thing I regret was I only had 1 more payment on the colorado.

Yeah I've done a lot of research on the Colorado and I have decided that I'll keep my 09' Silverado.
I really can't give up the amount of tq and hp my 6.0L has. Plus I have the max towing package and should be able to tow around 10,500lbs. So it pulls my trailer loaded with tools just fine. The Colorado can't even come close to that.
Plus I still want to feel like a big boy (not I’m not knocking you Colorado drivers) and not drive a truck that looks like a Tonka toy.
So I take back the question and I'll keep my truck.

I just switched to E85 flex in my 5.3. I'm not sure about that in your 6.0 though but it saves me .50 cents a gallon (about 12 bucks) at the pump. Gas milage is slightly lower but the cheaper fuel more than makes up for it

I did all the research. The only way to gain fuel economy over a full-size is to switch to a 4 cylinder 2wd. Any other combination gives you the fuel economy of a full-size with a v8.

Does the cheaper fuel come close to making up for the decreased fuel economy? Last I checked, you would spend considerably more on E85 to go the same distance on 87 octane.
