Slicks?

I plan on taking the 89 to the track soon. Can I put slicks on a 7" wide wheel? Or am I crazy? What size would I want to run with a 2.73 gear?

Put a couple sandbags in the back if that TBI motor can even break the tires loose.:D No need for buying slicks.

So what exactly do you have that would involve the need for slicks?

Enough power to spin the street tires way to much to get anywhere.

A heavy foot and a 5000 rmp neutral drop lol.
Well, the tire is 1" wider than the wheel on each side w/ 7" of sidewall to pull in.
AFAIK lots of guys run 315/70R17's on 17" by 10" wheels which is 1" wider per side w/ 8.7" of sidewall so I don't see why it would cause a problem. The only issue I can see is the tires rubbing the outer fender when you lauch. I think that you could get a wider wheel such as the cheapo generic ones that most tire shops sell for cheap in an 8" or 9" width and then not have to worry about switching tires on your wheels.
my 94 is a TBI and it will spin all threw 1st,2nd and half way threw 3rd i have to feather it all the way down the track but when i had thoes good yr slicks i hooked up like a champ
if i remember i think they where like 275/65/15
Just grab a bottle of VHT for like $10 or whatever it is, it'd be a better temporary solution, if you care about your paint, just make sure to wash it off, or put a little baby oil on the rear fenders before you put it down and spin em in it.
better yet guys...i was in the dome section yesterday at the drug store...and they have KY gelly is sprayable forum....im gonna grab a few bottles so i can jsut spray it on my truck's box...and my g/f's
