I have about 92k on my truck. Should I replace my plugs? With what kind? What else needs replacing?

If its running ok and you're gas milage is still good, i woudln't touch them. BUt if it starts running like shit...then its probably time to replace them. If you're that curious you can pull them out and check how worn they are.

For 100k, i'd get a new serpentine belt, flush the cooling system, get the tranny serviced/flushed, and service the rear diff (maybe...its not hard), and top up the wiper fluid. :anitoof:

hell yeah. i plan on relacing mine at 30k :read:

i know GM says that they can go to 100, but thats crap IMO, they lose their peak performance way before that.

i ussually like to stick Delco parts in my truck. you cant go wrong with them. i think its called the AC delco rapidfire?????

alot of performance guys run NGK's, but i think either would be fine

Got the tranny serviced and i think rearend serviced at 45k......it was after a 300mi trip towing my POS '73 GMC longbed (my silvy has a 4.8L).

You don't say what your truck is?? NBS or OBS???

If you got it done at 45K you are due again.

On the NBS I also reccomend pulling the plugs every 30K to inspect. People have had issues with goin 100K and the plugs won't come out. Better to pull, inspect, antiseize, install. Personally with 92K i'd just replace the plugs. They aren't that expensive.

Drive Axle Service
Change rear axle fluid
Interval: Every 7500 miles.

Rear/ Front Axle Fluid Level Inspection
Inspect rear/front axle fluid level
Interval: Every 7500 miles.

Passenger Compartment Air Filter Replacement
Change passenger compartment air filter
Interval: Every 15000 miles under dusty conditions


Automatic Transmission Fluid Replacement
Change automatic transmission fluid and filter
Interval: Every 25000 miles if the vehicle is driven under one or more of these severe conditions 1)In heavy city traffic 2)Where the outside temperature regularly reaches 90F or (32C) or higher 3)In hilly or mountainous terrain 4)uses such as police, commercial 5)frequent trailer pulling. If you do not use your vehicle under any of these conditions, change fluid and filter every 50000 miles


Tire Rotation
Check tires for uneven wear or damage. If irregular or premature wear is apparent, check wheel alignment
Interval: Every 7500 miles.

If you do not use your vehicle under any of these conditions, change the fluid and filter at 100000 miles.

Manual Transmission Fluid Replacement
Replace five speed manual transmission fluid
Interval: "Every 150000 miles with 4300 V6 or4800 V8 engines only"

Annual Checkup:
Lubricate the key lock cylinders with the lubricant.
Lubricate all hood hinges, hood latch assembly, secondary latch, pivots, spring anchor, release pawl, door hinges, rear compartment, glove box door, console door and any folding seat hardware. More frequent lubrication may be required when exposed to a corrosive environment.

Semi-annual checkup:
Inspect the front and rear suspension and steering system for damaged, loose, or missing parts, signs of wear, or lack of lubrication.
Inspect the power steering lines and hoses for proper hookup, binding, leaks, cracks, chafing, etc.
Clean and then inspect the drive axle boot seals for damage, tears, or leakage. Replace seals if necessary.
Inspect the complete exhaust system. Inspect the body near the exhaust system. Look for broken, damaged, missing, or out-of-position parts as well as open seams, holes, loose connections, or other conditions which could cause a heat buildup in the floor pan or could let exhaust fumes into the vehicle.
Inspect the hoses and have them replaced if they are cracked, swollen, or deteriorated. Inspect all pipes, fittings, and clamps; replace as needed.
Clean the outside of the radiator and air conditioning condenser. To help ensure proper operation, a pressure test of the cooling system and pressure cap is recommended at least once a year.
Inspect the throttle system for interference or binding, and for damaged or missing parts. Replace parts as needed. Replace any components that have high effort or excessive wear. Do not lubricate accelerator or cruise control cables.
Inspect brake lines and hoses for proper hookup, binding, leaks, cracks, chafing, etc. Inspect disc brake pads for wear and rotors for surface condition. Inspect other brake parts, including calipers, parking brake, etc. Check parking brake adjustment. You may need to have your brakes inspected more often if your driving habits or conditions result in frequent braking.

At each fill:
Check the engine oil level and add the proper oil if necessary.
Check the engine coolant level and add DEX-COOL® coolant mixture if necessary.
Check the windshield washer fluid level in the windshield washer tank and add the proper fluid if necessary.

Monthly:

Make sure the safety belt reminders light and all your belts, buckles, latch plates, retractors, and anchorages are working properly.
Look for any other loose or damaged safety belt system parts. If you see anything that might keep a safety belt system from doing its job, have it repaired. Have any torn or frayed safety belts replaced.
Look for any opened or broken air bag coverings, and have them repaired or replaced.
Inspect wiper blades for wear or cracking. Replace blade inserts that appear worn or damaged or that streak or miss areas of the windshield.
Silicone grease on weatherstrips will make them last longer, seal better, and not stick or squeak. Apply silicone grease with a clean cloth. During very cold, damp weather, more frequent application may be required.
Check the transaxle fluid level; add if needed.

The plugs are AC Delco Platinum in the trucks, from the factory. I personally run NGK Iridium's but probably wouldn't due to the expense if i didn't have buddy back home at O'reillys. I would check the plugs every so often, say 30k-40k miles, but they'll easily go 100k with platinum or iridium tips. Also go ahead and change your wires while ur doing it if you do. i believe the 4.8s have coil on plug to the wires wouldn't be too difficult at all

I changed my plugs and wires at 60k miles on my '01 Sierra.
The only thing I noticed was a smoother idle, you won't gain any power, but I've heard people saying their throttle response is better. It's just the little power you've lost from having old plugs.
I bought the MSD 8.5 wires just for the hell of it. When you change the plugs, put some anti-seize on the top of the plug threads and dielectric grease on the other end where you hook the wires to the plugs.
I threw away the old wires and plugs of course, but I kept the heat shields and springs in there.

I put bosch Platinum 4's in mine, $36, i only had about 6k miles on it too. :grin: I notice the truck runs smoother, and they really are a good upgrade if your going to improve you ignition, or supercharge :head2:

My Truck has 88K on her and i'm still getting about 15 mpg in the winter, so i'm good with the gas mileage. I'm planning on replacing my spark plugs because i'm getting MSD and want everything fresh. I bought my truck with 80k miles so i don't know when the last time it had a tune up was.

I change them hos ~30K. I run the TR55 NGKs in the Z and also at 50K I swapped stock plug wires to some Taylors.

100K on plugs is WAY too long.
