i have a 2000 silverado and i decided to check my air filter......assuming it was gonna be a paper one. i pull the cover and what do i find.....this big oily black sponge. i think to myself tyhis can't be stock....but you never know. i'm thinking this is an aftermarket re-useable filter, and if it is, the guy who had it before went nuts with the oil because there is a puddle in bottom of the box. what do u guys think.

Hmmm, sounds aftermarket to me, i've never heard of an oily spongy one stock...

Over oiling is bad news, try to get it down to a normal oil charge if you can. If not a quality paper one isn't too costly.

Good way to get the proper oil level is to clean it off, re-oil it, put it in a paper sack or old pillowcase and swing it around your head. This gets all loose oil particles off of it and keeps them from being sucked into your intake instead.
