Symptoms of a bad leaf spring forward bushing?

This question pertains to a '02 GMC Sierra 4wd, 180+k miles.

Would a bad leaf spring forward bushing cause a popping noise going over bumps or on uneven road surfaces?

It could.
I have a 2006 2wd Suburban and had that noise problem. Turned out to be the cross member under the oil pan. Had to loosen bolts and retighten. There is a service buliton . Don't know if it could be the same problem because yours is 4wd. Just a thought.

Thanks; I've got it in my garage & I'm going to put it on jack stands tomorrow & start getting back into it & I will check that.

The reason I was thinking maybe leaf spring bushings is because a while back ago I replaced the shackle on that side because it finally rusred out completely out. However, I couldn't get the spring to shackle bolt out, so I had to remove the leaf spring. In order to actually remove that bolt, I destroyed that bushing, so I took it to a spring shop & had it rebushed. The forward spring to frame bolt removal was pretty nasty also, but I did finally get the bolt out & I thought it looked okay, so I didn't have that bushing replaced. But as I said, that bolt came loose pretty ugly, & I was thinking maybe I damaged that bushing & just didn't know it.

Ever since I put it back together it has been noisy on bumps & getting progressively worse. To the point I don't even think I should be driving it.

You pretty much nailed it except for that on mine both bushing brackets were rusted & busted.
Watched a guy change them on youtube, his went pretty smooth. Personally, I had a helluva time getting the rivets pounded out, but they are out now & new bushings/brackets on order from Rock.
Thanks for the tip!
