I had a 99 F-250 7.3L ext cab for many years, had about 220k on it and I got a new job and went from driving 20 miles a day to 60 a day, so the fuel was killing me at 13 mpg. I put a ton of money into that truck, new ball joints, turbo pedestal, axle seals, diff cover, valve cover gasket, glow plugs, all new injector cups, injectors... many coolant flush.. over the years.. The most recent winter was annoying, wouldn't start and then had to get the valve cover gaskets, track bar, glow plugs, intake heater AGAIN....like for the second time in 60k miles. 1800 bucks. I was just over it... Plus I have 3 kids now and so all 3 kids wouldn't fit in the extended cab...... so the truck search started.

I ended up with a 2014 5.3L Silverado crew cab 1500 LT with leather, 8" screen, z71 package...all the stuff. Nice truck with rebates I was right below 40k before trade in and down payment. Engine is great, leather is great, 19.8 mpg so far with 2300 miles.

Much lower ride height than my Ford obviously, but I wanted the gas mileage and thought I could deal with a smaller truck. Thought I would just drop 2-3k at some point after warranty and lift it. However, I am over the low height and kind of over the truck. Everytime I see a f-150 or a new dodge or any kind of 3/4 ton I get this wierd regret feeling.

I was second guessing my decision and looking at trucks online and trying to see what I was thinking . Why didn't I just get a work truck 2015 2500 or a slightly used 2500.... Why was I so worreid about leather. Its a truck for goodness sake..... Then i saw a 2012 Dodge Power Wagon with 16k miles for 32k. Gorgeous truck, great condition. So now I am thinking about taking a hit on my Chevy, getting this PW and having a big truck again. Did I really buy a truck based on gas mileage? What was I thinking? Yes, the gas mileage on PW suck adn yes it costs more to operate, but if I am going to have this pricey of a truck, I really should love getting in it everyday, right? Am I an idiot or what? Someone talk me off the ledge.... or not. Just wanted some thoughts and to vent. The Power Wagon is a bad looking truck, more capable than Silverado off-road. I do some fishing and racoon hunting and go out in the woods, but certainly don't need that capability. 4wd and locking diff of Chevy is more than enough. I don't tow much of anything except a small boat or trailer every once in a while. The towing capacity of the Silverado is 9500 or so, and the PW is only about 1k more, both more than I will every need. . Payload is not much different. No real reason to get a PW, truly just the height and size. I am an idiot! :) Anyone else have this type of regret on a purchase? Just to give a little backstory, this is my first nice vehicle.. My first vehicle was a 1990 Jeep Comanche with 100k on it when i bought it. Then I lived in Chicago and didn't have a car. Then i moved back to Indiana and bought this old Ford diesel. So this is my first time buying a new vehicle that is nice...

Thanks.

just lift it or level it

and your truck isnt small

your reasons to get rid of it are so terrible I dont even know what to tell you. You just got it and now you want to take a hit on it? and you hated the ford due to cost of operating and mpg. so now you want a chrysler product and bad mpg again?

just lift it. No point getting into a bigger, used truck... Gas mileage never hurts the wallet!

Im a GM guy so totally biased but I would never consider a Ford or a gas dodge... $3000 can get you a lift and tires easily.. Granted mileage will suffer, but that's the case with anything. Definitely keep the truck.

Keep the truck. Once you start losing interest, just do a small mod to it. Then after anytime you're thinking about trading it, just do something to it to keep interest in it.

I don't know. I hate the short bed now for some reason. I am really starting to think I bought the wrong truck and should have waited for a power wagon or a Chevy 2500 with less options for the same price. Ugg. Such an idiot.

If you don't need the capacity of a 3/4 ton and don't use the truck as a truck than what's the problem?

If you are going to be driving a lot more with a new job then you are going to need a reliable vehicle. Your 2014 will be reliable and you will know everything about it, trading for a used truck you could find a lot of problems or repairs you may have to do.

I say add leveling kit, new wheels and tires, and enjoy it.

With the hit you would take you can level it, do basic bolt ons, and some new wheels and tires... keep it

Keep it. Lift it. Then it's the same size as a power wagon. Woopdeedoo. Will still get better mileage. Plenty capable. And be more reliable. Win win win situation.

Just remember why you got rid of the HD truck. Diesels can be money pits. That 1500 you have now is more economical and with a lift/wheels&tires it can be made into something badass.
Don't get me wrong, I like the heavier trucks with diesels but when it goes bad...... Man it costs.

I bought a brand new jetta for good gas mileage and regretted it after a few months. Finally had enough and traded it on my used 335i, which is what I wanted in the first place. Taking the hit sucked, but I am happier now. I finally quantified it as I was only happy with the jetta while at the gas (diesel) pump, but I am happy in the 335i every moment except at the pump. For me, having what I want is worth it but YMMV.
