I Just bought my first truck the end of October last fall, w/ 84,xxx kms. Now Have 114,xxx kms and realizing I'm strictly using it as a commuter and not as a truck. I've hauled a quad 2-3 times, and an engine for my Skyline 600kms home.
But for the most part I'm forced to drive 5-6 hrs South once a month and back and my NBS ECSB 5.3 Z71 w/ 4:10s. it's starting to act up, I've fought and fought with the dealer to warranty the trans problems I'm having, even though I work at the dealer.

Started thinking smaller, being I'm not using it as much. Looked at an '09 5.3/6spd EXT Cab 5'8" box 4x4, but Just didn't seem to strike me as too great of an Idea to have a fullsize when I'm not using it to it's potential (call it a personal pet peeve) Test drove a CC Z71 Colorado 5.3 and didn't really care for it, the power-weight was crazy but didn't strike my fancy, I just didn't care for the interior, seats, wasn't comfortable in it.

Then I found myself at a Hummer dealer and I found myself really REALLY enjoying driving the new H3T Alpha. I'm still trying to decide if its worth paying the extra cash and time for this thing, what with the Hummer tax and the nearest dealer being 2.5hrs away will I have a b!tch of a time getting basic maintenance (I.E Oil changes etc.) at a Chev/Cadillac or GMC/Buick Dealer? My assumption is to go to a Hummer forum to ask for any problems with these trucks yet to worry about. But I thought I'd ask here for a more open, general opinion.

Thanks for your time

Waldo

No thanks, Never really been a fan of the "laggy" 4.8, sorry.

My predicament is that I test drove a base H3T, w/ the I5 auto. The drive was smooth, excelled in the little bit of rough stuff the sales person let me go through, but never to take out of normal AWD. Have heard the I5 manual improves driving by leaps and bounds, and the 5.3 just makes it so much better if though the lack of a 6sp auto. I'm just worried about the 3.7 I5 Holding up, have never heard good things of this motor for long-term durability. The big thing I'm having such a problem is would it be worth the effort and money to go for the alpha 5.3v8? I drive 1200kms highway a month, and volunteer for a local municiple fire department/search and rescue crew, so the fact it has lots of cargo space over the suv adds to it, as well as offroad capability.

Another problem with the equation is I just started working for a Chev/Cadillac dealer in an aftermarket accessoriess dept. We deal with Banks perf. BDS susp. and a load of other aftermarket companies, and the sales people have been dealing with the owner to cut us a wicked deal on a newer 07-09 Duramax to show-case as a dealer demo of what our accessories dept and bodyshop can do to a vehicle. Have been a diesel nut since I was a kid, but have no need for it being I don't tow a damn thing, they'd just cut me a deal to get as much power out of it as possible. The two other guys I work with have no interest in it all.

I'm having one hell of a time deciding this, granted I won't be able to get financing till the spring after just starting there. But being the dealer I work at is gonna cut me a sweet deal, both come in at around the same price, so my final question is:

Go for a used, discounted Duramax?
Brand new,questionable futured, H3T?

Dmax out of all of those. Hummer will likely be sold. I haven't heard the recent terms of the sale, but I THINK GM was going to continue service all Hummers current offerings under warranty issues. A good deal on a diesel is always something to jump on.

Even though H3's are pretty baller for a stock wheeling machine.

I've pretty much decided on going with the Hummer, because I just can't justify having a fullsize truck. Maybe if I won the lottery but for now I need something reasonable that I can live with for a few years.
I got a d!ck of a salesman to boot, waited 20-25 mins for a sales person to come talk to me, guy went ahead right off the bat got my information and got me approved to take home a base carbon black H3T manual, w/ black & red cloth seats, offroad pkg & sunroof in 15 mins. I hadn't asked the guy one question! It's good to know I was approved, but I only started working for GM a month ago, didn't think it was possible for someone my age (20) with little to no credit to be approved on the spot like that. But what really made me upset was the guy said my truck ('05 ecsb SLE Z71, 114000kms)was only worth $10,000 on trade! I haven't had it a year and I bought it last October for $17,000! WTF! Kelly's black book said it was worth $14,500. Does this sound right?

No matter what I'm getting one of these trucks but my only problem is deciding on which model to go with.

My choices are the:

-3.7 w/ manual trans:
-Never driven a standard in winter
-Un-sure about the reliabilty of the 3.7 I5
-Drive alot of highway, the I5 is weak at high speeds
-Only cloth seats offered, can't stand new GM cloth
-Better fuel mileage around town
-Rated @239hp & 241ft/lbs
-Alpha 5.3 4l60e 4spd auto
-Better Highway mileage
-Leather seat optional
-Low enough gearing pretty well idles around in city traffic
-Flexfuel offered in 2010 models
-V8 & leather adds almost $10,000. to the final cost
-rated @ 300HP & 320ft/lbs

I had a Colorado with the I5 for a company truck. I beat the hell out of that truck and had it over loaded ALL the time. The truck ran great. If the Colorado interior had been nicer, I'd have one of those right now instead of my Sierra.

Since you work at a GM dealer, talk to your service manager and see what he says about warranty work. My local GMC dealer will not perform warranty work on Chevys and vice versa unless it is a critical issue involving the safety of the vehicle.

They may honor the warranty now, as HUMMER still belongs to GM, but, what happens if HUMMER sells to the Chinese? Will they only honor the warranty of the HUMMERs built by GM?

Edit to add: When the Colorado I5 wasn't over loaded, it got the same mileage as my 5.3L Silverado that I owned at the time. Personally, I would go for the V8 if I could afford it.

As far as everything I've read and heard from dealers, GM is keeping warranty on vehicles until the 2011 models, and the warranty plan after the last sales year. Hence why the deal has been taking so long. GM is trying to keep as much of Hummer as possible while "selling" the brand. They will continue to be made in the US, H2 and H3/H3T.
The dealer I'm at is pretty open, our GMC dealer does all warranty work on diesels wether gm or chev, chev dealer does more small cars cobalts,g6,g5,etc than trucks. GMC dealer sold hummers for a year, couldn't move enough and backed out. I'd just ask them to transfer me one in and deal with the company I work for but can't because the owner group doesn"t have licensing to the Hummer line.

What kind of driving did you do in your Colorado?
I felt the same way about the colorado/canyon interior, granted the H3s not much better, but it doesn't feel tiny inside.

I worked for an HVAC company running parts so I always had duct work and boilers in the back of the truck. Most of the driving was city driving. There was really only one mountain and it was pretty much just a hill compared to what you might find in Colorado.

My only real gripe about the Colorado was the seemingly poor gas mileage in comparison to the 5.3L in my full size.
