I have just finished puting airbags on my 1997 gmc sierra 1500 regular cab long box fleet side truck and now am going to buy some new rims and tires for it...

right now
front 235-60-15....................back 255-60-15
on 16 x 6 (stock) rims............on 16 x 6 (stock) rims
I believe they are both 3 inch back spacing (or zero offset)?

What I want to run are
Centerline Escapes
20 x 8 with 5" backspacing (their website says "rearspacing" = I think thats backspacing)
with 245-35-20 tires...

that should fit right?
and will the 35s be a really rough ride?

I tried posting this under the exterior heading but no one replied?

5" of backspacing on a 8" wide wheel sounds like it will work, but I'm no expert .. .never heard of a 245/35/20 ... most guys run a 245/40/20 or a 255/35/20 .. what series of wheel is it, is it the Centerline Tomahawk? If so, it will work, cause that's what Y2KSierra has but i n a different style.

Yes they are tomahawks...centerline tomahawk escape
and the tires are a little know brand (but I can get them here) from taiwan called Nankangs...NS2 series...they have been selling tires in north america for 30 years.

Unless you are running the 245-35-20's for a reason. I would go with a 245/40/20 or a 255/35/20.
So far the reason is I can't find anyone around here who carries those (as I have said in other posts =lots of stuff here for lifted trucks or ricers...not much for lowered trucks ) but I will ask to see if those are available too...

They carry 245/35's but not the others?

... buy some off of www.tirerack.com or another site. Have some shipped in thru you tire dealer. If you could see the size of a 245/35 up close then a 245/40 you would go with the 245/40 hands down.

okay I talked to them and...
I can get the following
245-35-20=225 u$ Nankangs
245-40-20=420 u$ big name ---forgot it because of sticker shock :insane:
255-35-20=182 u$ Continentals

as near as I can tell the 255-35-20s would fit...
Anyone running them?

Does Continental make a decent tire?

that's plenty of backspacing to tuck. I've got continental 255/35/20's on the front of my truck. With any low pro, you will have a rough ride. I've got 14,000 miles on the tires, and they will be worn out in about 4,000 more miles. These are low pro's, so they don't get mileage near like super swampers :D

right on....my truck is a 97 with 54,000 kms on it...so about 34000 miles or about 5,000 miles per year...so assuming I don't drive rougher than you they should last me about 3 to 4 years...

so how do you tuck those super swampers :haha:

AFAIK it should work. But what I'm wondering is how you got 235-60-15 and 255-60-15 to fit on 16's
