I can't remember seeing a post from someone who has done a swap in the NNBS.

I have the 4.3, I want to swap to either a 5.3 or 6.0 (whatever I find cheapest when the time comes is what Ill put in, 6.0 is perfered.)

what is different between doing the swap in the NBS and the NNBS?

Trans from my 4.3 should bolt up to the 5.3 correct?

if i found a motor with all accessories/harness/pcm it should be plug and play correct? just some new motor mounts would be needed?

Do i need a motor that came out of a NNBS truck?

This is something that I am serious about, not just shitting around. I want to wait til I hit 36k miles though so 16k more miles to go.

yeah and get the pcm retuned, I could buy the whole deal for not much more money. I just know the newer v8 trucks motors are gen IV and the NBS have gen III motors in them. I don't know if that causes an issue or not.

The location of the cam position sensor among a few others things are the biggest changes between the gen III and IV engines. There are plenty of swap parts so you can run either engine.

All NNBS engines(at least the v8s) are Gen IV engines.

You said motor. Not engine.

Why do you keep saying only 36k? it has a 100,000 mile powertrain warranty on the engine...... oh, and you'll need the entire harness out of the other truck as the 4.3 still uses a damned distributor and im fairly sure the injectors are still under the upper intake, but i could be wrong on that. i've only ever seen 2 nnbs with a 4.3 in 4 years in the dealership.....

i say 36k cause thats when all the other stuff goes out. the powertrain is not of concern, I just don't want to have to fight about electrical stuff cause I swapped the motor.

Hell I'd swap it now. They're less likely to notice you swapped to a different engine if you do it right, plus if something goes wrong, they may actually warranty it. Stranger things have happened.

That's also not to mention they have to legally prove the engine caused the issue.

thats true, that is why I want all the factory wiring from the other engine. and the pcm.

Id do it now, but the 36k is also a financial time frame. Ive got to save up some extra dough to be able to buy the new motor.

You'll need the v8 wiring harness anyways, yes. It will make the swap that much easier. I don't know what changed with the nnbs trucks, but there is a fantastic v6 to v8 swap thread on Performancetrucks done by [email protected](It may be Derek @ EDO). Search for one of those usernames.
